If you use the Conﬁguration Manager in dynamic mode to make changes, select

File

Save or File

Save As to copy the conﬁguration from memory to the media;

otherwise the changes will be lost after the router reboots.

If you enter the Technician Interface

set

and

commit

commands, you must enter

the following command to copy the modiﬁed conﬁguration from memory to the

media:

save conﬁg

<ﬁlename>

Backing Up Your Files

Store backup copies of the conﬁguration ﬁles on the Site Manager workstation. To

prevent confusion, use a log to record the location, name, and purpose of each

conﬁguration ﬁle you back up. Organizing and naming the backup ﬁles on the Site

Manager workstation will also help you prevent mix-ups.

Maintaining Consistent Files in Multiple Memory Cards

If the router uses multiple memory cards, make sure that each ﬁle is consistent in

each memory card designated for storing ﬁles of that type. For example, if you

make a change to a router software image or conﬁguration ﬁle, save the ﬁle to

each memory card that contains the same ﬁles.

To make sure that the ﬁles of the same name are consistent on multiple memory

cards, display the directory of each card and compare the sizes of each ﬁle.

Handling Memory Cards to Prevent Static Damage

Always use an antistatic wrist strap when handling memory cards; static

electricity can damage them.

Caution:

Always back up a ﬁle before deleting it. This includes conﬁguration

and log ﬁles. And always back up the current log ﬁle on the Site Manager

workstation before clearing it; you may want to refer to it later to troubleshoot

a problem.
