Chapter 67 Configuring IP Filter Rules 627
BCM 4.0 Networking Configuration Guide
Inbound Rules
The BCM IP Filters feature is one of the security features BCM offers to protect your network
against intruders. The security and firewall features are also used for controlling what outside
resources your users will be able to access.
The following features are part of the BCM firewall:
“Basic (stateless) Packet Filter” on page 628
“Stateful Packet Filters” on page 723
Also refer to:
Accessing Element Manager through the Firewall” on page 646
“Firewall rules for BCM with Dialup interfaces” on page 647
Packet filtering
A packet filter is a firewall facility that inspects incoming and outgoing packets and uses this
information to determine which network packets to allow through the firewall. The traffic may or
may not be tracked by keeping the state of the connection.
