Freeing the Host Connection
Use a Resource block to free the host connection slot (see Releasing Connection Slot
and Handling Exceptions on page 69.)
To send and receive messages on a system is configured for multiple VTCPD, the
application must specify the particular instance of VTCPD. The condition data
associated with gotres contains the connection number, the slot number, and
VTCPD port number. The application can use this information to communicate with
the correct VTCPD. For additional information, see Configurations That Require
Multiple VTCPD on page 91.
VTCPD also releases the host slot in the following circumstances:
• The application disconnects (that is, executes a Disconnect block or a Main
Container Exit connector)
• The application sends a message containing a different message ID
• The application requests a different connection (see Specifying the Host
Connection on page 81.)
• The system loses the host connection (in this case, applications using the
connection receive hostdown)
If the application sends and receives data without explicitly reserving and releasing
the host connection, VTCPD releases the host slot after the application receives the
host data. For additional information, see Soliciting Host Data on page 73.
