In Get Host Slot, the application instructs VTCPD to reserve the host connection slot,

see Backup LAN on page 38 and Specifying the Host Connection on page 81.

In Send Data, the application sends data to the host. This associates the message ID

with the phone line. The message ID remains associated with the phone line until the

application sends a message with a different ID, or the application releases the host

connection slot (see Sending Messages on page 84.)

In Receive Data, the host uses the message ID to respond to the application. After

associating the message ID with the phone line, the application can receive several

messages (see Receiving Messages on page 87.)

In Free Host Slot, the application releases the host connection slot (see Freeing the

Host Connection on page 95.)

In this standard scenario, the application reserves the host connection slot for the

entire transaction. The application can be set to reserve the slot for a shorter time (see
