VTCPD Features User Manual
Variable Length Messages
VTCPD can be configured to support either fixed length messages or variable length
messages (see Message Format on page 46.)
Based on the VTCPD configuration, a variable length message is either delimited by a
special character or specified by a length header that precedes the message (the length
header can be included in the total length of the message).
VTCPD is responsible for supplying the delimiter or the length header. The
application should only send data— the delimiter or length header is added by
VTCPD.
The application can also specify the length of the message that it sends to the host (see
Variable Length Messages on page 86.)
Applications can use the Resource block Length field to specify the length of the
message sent to the host (see Message Format on page 46.) The length of the message
must not be less than the length of the message ID plus the position of the message ID.
This feature can be used if, for example, the data changes dynamically but the
application stores it in the same data card.
The application cannot change the length of a message if VTCPD is configured for
fixed length messages (that is, vtcpd -f <len>).
If the application specifies the length of the message, VTCPD ignores the truncate
option, vtcpd -mt (see Message Format on page 46.)
