VTCPD Troubleshooting
The VTCPD Troubleshooting is composed of two parts. A listing of Typical Problems
is provided to assist in resolving common problems, see Typical Problems on page
107. A Questions and Answers listing is also provided, again this is to assist in
resolving common problems, see Questions and Answers on page 109.
Typical Problems
Check the listing of Typical Problems to see if your problem is listed.
VTCPD cannot connect to the host: on page 107
Data from host does not arrive to VTCPD: on page 107
The reply from the host is not routed to the application: on page 108
The host does not send correct data: on page 108
Questions and Answers on page 109
If nothing else helps: on page 108
VTCPD cannot connect to the host:
Check that the host is defined in /etc./hosts and /etc./ethers VTCPD command line
correctly specifies host name or IP address
Make sure that:
the host is up (use the /usr/sbin/ping command)
the appropriate process on the host is running and is using correct TCP/IP port
Use snoop, paying special attention to source and destination ports
Data from host does not arrive to VTCPD:
Using VTCPD command line option -X2, check that data actually don't arrive
from the host (arriving data are marked in debugging by << From Host)
Verify in snoop that data are sent by the host and the destination port matches
ephemeral port, assigned to VTCPD.
Check that VTCPD is not in an infinite loop (send amu-command request status).
If VTCPD has been started from your terminal you should see some output,
otherwise truss the daemon. If you see infinite loop contact R&D.
