Establishing or Changing the Host Specifications
The system can start a VTCPD when all or some of the host specifications are
unavailable (see Application-Defined Mode on page 29.) However, applications
cannot use these host connections until additional information is associated with the
links. The Resource block can be used to establish the remaining host information also
to dynamically change the host specifications.
Use a data card or a literal in the Send From field (Mode field in PeriProducer version
2.3) to set the host name, the port number, or both. Use the syntax host:<hname>
port:<number>. The host can be specified using either the host’s name or the its IP
address.
The Length field (Channel field in PeriProducer 2.3) can be used to specify the
connection number. The connection number must be in the range from one to the total
number of host connections. The total number of host connections is defined by the
VTCPD configuration (vtcpd -l #) (see Host Connection Options on page 26.) If
the specified link is connected, VTCPD closes the link before making the connection.
This feature can be used to instruct VTCPD to reestablish a connection — if, for
example, an administrative application misses pings from the host.
For example, to set the host to raven and the port to 5:
