Maintaining an Audit Trail Log

To use the Audit Trail feature, you must edit the default audit trail configuration

ﬁle that comes with Site Manager. You edit the ﬁle to

• Specify an audit trail community; that is, the routers for which you want to

create audit trail log ﬁles.

• Specify whether you want auditing on or off. By default, the Audit Trail

feature is off.

The following section describes how to edit the audit trail conﬁguration ﬁle.

Editing the Audit Trail Conﬁguration File

Site Manager provides a default audit trail conﬁguration ﬁle, audit.cfg. The ﬁle

resides in /usr/wf on UNIX workstations, and in c:\wf on PCs. You must edit the

ﬁle to specify the following for each router you want to audit:

• The IP address of the router

• The pathname of the audit trail log ﬁle

• The email addresses of all users that the Audit Trail feature should notify if

the router’s conﬁguration ﬁle changes

• Whether the audit trail feature is on or off

To edit the audit trail conﬁguration ﬁle, follow these steps:

1. To edit the audit trail conﬁguration ﬁle on a UNIX workstation, copy the

audit.cfg ﬁle to a directory where you have write permission.

2. Open audit.cfg in a standard text editor.
