Routing Information Field (RIF)
For source routing purposes, the most important part of a frame is the Routing
Information Field (RIF). This field contains the routing information needed by the
bridge to forward a frame.
The RIF is an optional field. The router uses the RIF only if the frame destination
is another ring. When used, the RIF is placed at the beginning of a frame’s data
field.
The RIF has two sections: Routing Control fields and Routing Designators
(Figure
B-2).

Routing Control
Routing control is 2 bytes long and comprises the following bit fields:
