Multiple RS Clusters in an AS
An AS can contain multiple IBGP route server clusters with the following
restrictions:
• Each cluster in the AS has a unique ID. You assign the ID to each server in the
cluster. For instructions, see “Assigning a Cluster ID to an IBGP Server” on
page 8-31.
• Within each cluster, route servers are connected to each in a tree topology for
internal
(intracluster) communications.
• Within the AS, clusters are connected to each other in a tree topology for
external
(intercluster) communications.

, for example, shows an AS with three route server clusters. Within
each cluster, route servers are connected in a tree topology of peer connections.
Clusters 1, 2, and 3 are also connected to each other in a tree topology
